Maternity Secret of the Month: Did you know that you can develop stretch marks on and around your breast during pregnancy? We tend to forget this when thinking about the magical phenomenon of milk production. Novena has developed a one of a kind breast cream. It is safe and very effective in the prevention of developing stretch marks on your breast especially during the critical time after birth when milk rushes in and breast can triple in size. It is organic, natural, non sticky and gluten free just in case your little one or one's are allergic. Novena thought of everything, oh yeah and its also odorless.... you will thank us for this one....

Maternity Secret of the Month: Did you know that your skin changes every month and from trimester to trimester? One month you may have oily acnetic skin and the next dry and or sensitive skin. This is also true with food cravings and sensitivity to smells. It too shall pass.
When choosing your skin care products be sure to choose based on your typical skin type. If you are usually normal to dry or sensitive choose those products that best fit your normal skin type not what you are currently going through. This will help you achieve a balanced complexion and your issues may be nothing more than tweaking your current regimen.
Lately I have received a few e-mails from women regarding acne and dryness. This is one sure way of balancing things out. I recommend (believe it or not) washing only in the evening and splashing a few times with cool water in the morning. Let me explain.... When you wash your skin, you are stripping away makeup, dirt and your natural oil. Your skins natural reaction is to balance your skins oil balance and sends a signal to your oil glands to produce more oil to compensate. Over drying may occur immediately after you wash and then shortly after oil will appear if you normally have oily skin. If you have dry sensitive skin it will feel tight and dry up to a few hours. Over drying oily skin will promote more oil and create more breakouts, over drying dry sensitive skin will promote more dryness and sensitivity. Note: When you sleep you are not exposed to environmental pollutants and hopefully you don't go to sleep with makeup on, so why would you need to wash again in the m orning? Think about it... if you don't think this is possible try it for a week and you will see that you will have a more balanced complexion with fewer issues. I guarantee it..... The only exception is if you have always had extremely oily, acnetic skin and wake up with a very shinny nose, chin and forehead....
If you currently use our Organic Fruit Face Wash be sure to dispense only a tiny pea size amount to the palms of your hands, add water and cleans using circular motion. You may experience a slight flush (redness of the face) this is normal and will disappear within a few minutes. This is caused by stimulation and blood flow to your cells. Our products are very concentrated and a little goes a long way, so don't over use and don't over wash.... you will love this tip.
If you have any skin care questions or concerns please e-mail me at any time. I would be happy to answer your concerns and offer a solution.

Did you know that years ago Plastic Surgeons would give their patients facial peels using "SUGAR"?
Today chemical peels are made out of sugar.
Achieve soft ,clear and radiant skin with your own home made organic peel.
Mix 1 teaspoon of sugar with a pea size drop of Novena Organic Fruit Face wash. Add a few drops of water and blend with fingertip to make a paste then scrub, scrub, scrub. Using circular motion scrub until the sugar has dissolved completely then rinse and pat dry. You will not believe how amazing your skin will look and feel. The ingredients in the Fruit Face Wash mixed with the sugar will create a perfect compound for the Organic Home Peel.

This month's topic is the dreaded ACNE. I have been bombarded these past couple of weeks with questions about acne, so if you don't suffer from breakouts wonderful, but if you do, please read on.
I have found that if you reduce your stress about breakouts they will subside. I remember when I would wake up every morning wondering what new blemish or pimple I would wake up with. It never failed me I would wake up to a new set of blemishes. It was not till I met a facialist and she told me to repeat that my skin was flawless and beautiful every morning before I would look in the mirror and off course it was not but I kept repeating it morning after morning and believe it or not it started getting better. I know that sounds crazy and maybe it is but I tell my Acne patients to do that little exercise and it works many times. I believe a positive thought creates positive actions. It does not hurt to try and it takes no time or
money.
Note: Many times it is thought that drying out your skin will make your acne better but on the contrary. If you over dry your skin, the ability for the natural oil to flow out and lubricate the top dead layer (epidermis) will be blocked, because the top layer is so dry that there is no passage and the oil accumulates under the dry skin creating more bacteria and acne, also when the skin senses a decrease in the natural oil level the automatic default of the human body is to create more oil quickly to bring it back to its normal balance. I hope this explains a little bit of the oil function.
On that note, I have three little suggestions if you can not control your breakouts,
Hydrogen Peroxide, Calamine lotion and
Novena's Organic Citrus Blemish Lotion
Hydrogen Peroxide: Use the hydrogen peroxide like you would use a toner after you cleanse your skin. Apply the hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball and wipe all over your skin concentrating on your breakout areas, stay away from your hairline and eye brows because it will turn them reddish orange if you have dark hair and light blond if you have light hair. This will help decrease the bacteria and help reduce breakouts.
Novena Organic Citrus Blemish Lotion:
After your skin has dried from the hydrogen peroxide, apply two pumps of the citrus blemish lotion. The Citrus Blemish Lotion was formulated with organic ingredients that kill bacterial, reduce red and inflamed blemishes, heal and repair damaged skin tissue caused by breakouts and help reduce future breakouts. Wake up to better, clearer skin.
Calamine Lotion: The pink stuff you put on bug bites: dap a little bit of the pink stuff with a q-tip on your cyst, blemishes, and pimples etc leave it on over night. You can apply it over the citrus blemish lotion as a stay on spot mask. This will also help to dry out the pimple and help reduce their size. Don't over do it because you can over dry your skin and that will create another problem, every other night is enough and decrease it if you start getting to dry.
I really like to hear from women and their skin issues because heaven knows I have mine. I always enjoy being able to help out someone that is going through some kind of skin problem as well as learning from someone that may have a great ingredient that has helped them.

This month's topic is Brown Spots also known as Melasma or pregnancy mask!
The best way to protect your skin is to use sun block morning, noon and night. Ok, well maybe not night but you get my point.
Brown spots pop up mainly during pregnancy because everything is accelerated. Your hormones are working hard to regulate themselves, that being said your melanocits(cells that give you color) are also working double time. A signal is sent to your cells to make more of everything and in turn you make more color. That is why it is important to use a SPF everyday to protect your self from sun exposure because when you are pregnant the tiniest amount of sun can cause you to develop brown spots.
Novena Maternal Skin Care worked very hard to develop a cream that not only prevented the brown spots from occurring but also reversed the brown spots that had already appeared. It was not easy because it had to be safe and effective. After five long years and many many pregnant and post pregnancy trial volunteers we finally found the perfect formula! The secret is that we found a way to compound two organic ingredients that have lightening effects on skin. When we found the perfect mix we not only found that it prevented the brown spots but that it slowed down the melanin production so eventually the women on the trails that had already developed the brown spots were fading fast.
We believe so much in this product that we are conducting a complementary 28 day sample trial. We have seen dramatic results in as little as two weeks!
What have you got to loose!

I want to take this opportunity to talk about something that is very apparent in today’s society.
Children are being brought into this world with challenges in rates that have never been seen till recent history.
Skin Care Tip of the MONTH….
Potential Harmful and Toxic ingredient:
According to EWG(environmental working group) the following chemical is a potential harmful and toxic ingredient that should be avoided when you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant or going through infertility treatments.
Phthalates: Are found in many ordinary products including skin care and cosmetic.
Studies have suggested that phthalates can cause reproductive birth defects. It is believed that phthalates can cause reproductive problems in boys and send girls into early puberty.
Phthalates are known to cause a broad range of birth defects and lifelong reproductive impairments when a study in lab animals that were exposed to these chemicals during pregnancy and after birth.
Phthalates are also known to be hormone mimicking chemicals, many which disrupt normal hormonal processes, raising concerns about their implications for increased breast cancer risk….
Many diseases like cancer, asthma, birth defect and learning disabilities are on the rise, and there is growing evidence that these health problems are linked to the chemicals we are exposed to in our environment, food and every day personal care products.
Concerned parents can check labels to make sure they say Phthalate Free or DEP or DEHP Free.
This week Novena Maternal Skin Care is holding a fund raiser to help St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Please visit our web site www.novenamaternity.com to discover some amazing surprises.
We have been blessed this year however unfortunately charity is hurt during hard economic times. We at Novena want to give something back.30% of all proceeds collected this week will go directly to St. Jude Children’s Cancer Research and to the care of thousands of needy children that with out St. Jude would not have much of a fighting chance.
Note: I’ve receive many e-mails questioning ingredients that are used in Novena Maternal Skin Care’s formulations. I would like to take this opportunity to announce that every single ingredient in Novena has been hand picked and carefully chosen for use during pregnancy. Many of the teas and extracts that have been cautioned not to be used during pregnancy are not meant to be taken internally (orally) but are perfectly safe to use topically. You may rest a sure that you are safe with Novena.
Novena recommends seeking the advice of a mid wife or physician when questions or concerns regarding ingredients are not clear.
